CTF Study to Reveal Full School and Municipal Tax Burden on Manitoba Farmers

WINNIPEG:
At a press conference in Brandon, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) will release a new study on Manitoba's property tax burden. The study is the first of its kind to outline the impact of school division and municipal taxes on Manitoba farmers.

The CTF conducted research on over 200 Manitoba municipalities to examine the extent of property taxes levied on farmlands. The findings highlight:
  • The range and rate of school and municipal tax increases;
  • The dependency of school division and municipal taxes on farmland by R.M.;
  • The range of farmland property tax and residential property tax on the average farm by R.M.; and,
  • The range of property tax per acre of farmland by R.M.

The CTF advances a series of recommendations to the provincial and local governments to remedy the school and municipal tax burden on Manitoba farmers.
